Brady's History

Since the early 1900's there has been a small bar located on the North West corner of East 82nd Street and Second Ave. It was originally known as McGrath's and rumor has it, it remained "open" even during Prohibition.

In 1961 a bartender named Dan Brady was offered the bar because of laws limiting the number of establishments that could be owned by one owner. Dan was born in Mullahorn, Co. Cavan and had migrated to New York in 1956. This was an offer he could not refuse and in May 1961 Brady's was born. During the 60's and 70's Brady's became well a well–known neighborhood watering hole where many long lasting friendships began and continue today.

In 1991 Dan Brady Sr. retired and offered the sale of the bar to his son Dan Jr. This too was an offer that another Dan could not refuse. Dan, a graduate of St. John's University, was working for Unisys - a Computer/ Software manufacturer at the time. He decided to leave the corporate world behind and work for himself.

Since 1991 Brady's has undergone some extensive changes. Dan added six large screen TV's with satellite access, Dart's a Pool Table, a continuously updated Juke Box and a wide variety of Beers and Liquors. One thing that has not changed is the friendly atmosphere and neighborhood feel. Being one of the last establishments of its kind, it has warmed the hearts of many New Yorkers and visitors alike. Please stop by and see for yourself.
